A favourite of many, Peppermint tea has many beneficial qualities. Peppermint tea is made from dried peppermint leaves, with the infusion being served for centuries as a medicinal and soothing drink. More recently, it was discovered that menthol — the active ingredient in peppermint — is very helpful as an anti-spasmodic and muscle relaxant making it great to relieve stomach cramps and aches.
It has also been shown to possess anti-bacterial and decongestant properties and in some instances may help provide some pain relief. It is great to drink if you have a cold or flu!
Aside from the health benefits, many people simply enjoy the refreshing and relaxing flavour of peppermint tea and the great after-taste it leaves in your mouth.
Preparation: Use one or two heaped teaspoons of dried peppermint leaves per cup. Steep by pouring boiling water over the leaves. Leave for several minutes — depending on how strong an infusion you prefer. Normally served without adding any sweetener.
